When you step inside Botanica, you’ll find an array of colourful butterflies, a variety of plants you likely haven’t seen before and the smell of freshly prepared food ready to sweep you off your feet. Inspired by nature, we do also do our best to preserve it.

LAND OF BICYCLES

We may live in a very flat country, but there are an incredible amount of ingredients and places to get inspired by. From Scheveningen beach to “De Haagse markt”, we can either visit the ocean or the greenest market in Europe. All a simple bike ride away.

With that same vision, we choose home-grown and homemade. By focusing on local suppliers, we support smaller companies in our community and offer you the best of The Netherlands. As such, it’s no surprise that our coffee roast only supplies to businesses within The Hague. Note, only by bike. With each aspect from product to plate, we intend to have the smallest footprint in the supply chain.

EARTHY DUTCH FLAVORS

The Dutch are commonly known for their simple seasoning. Don’t be fooled. We’re definitely stepping it up a notch by not only spicing our food with more than salt and pepper but by heightening the earthy flavors of our ingredients. How? The Josper oven. We can cook into clean and uncomplicated flavors all while achieving a high standard.

MEET OUR LOCAL HERO – HAAGSE EITJES

Every month we shed the light on one of our neighbors that help us in our mission towards honest and local food.

Our eggs are supplied by Haagse Eitjes. Located in Den Haag-Ypenburg about 150 hens live in circular housing called Rondeel. It was designed by Wageningen University, who studied the behavior of chickens to create a natural environment. In their round residence, they have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, as well as have a safe place to lay eggs and sleep indoors. They meet the Dutch quality label for sustainable production (PlanetProof), as well as the highest Dutch standards on animal welfare (3 stars ‘Beter leven’). Care for some eggs?
